Chemistry laboratory Infrastructure Vs Biology Laboratory Infrastructure
Chemistry laboratory Infrastructure Vs Biology Laboratory Infrastructure

Laboratory Infrastructure: Infrastructure of the laboratory plays an important role in the better functioning of the laboratory. But what does it mean by the term infrastructure? Is it just the equipment used in the laboratory or there more to this term?

We will discuss thoroughly about what infrastructure is and how important the Infrastructure actually is.

How much does it matter to have A Strong Infrastructure is?

Nowadays, the growth of science is skyrocketing. We are very advanced and a lot of things can be done automatically, which was not possible before. This advancement in science gave the scientists more time to involve in experiments and new discoveries.

The laboratories, which have better equipment and tools, will help the scientists perform the experiments well and also provide great results. Here are some ways to judge whether the infrastructure used is good or not;

  • How many of these experiments can be conducted in a day?
  • How many individuals can function simultaneously while sustaining safety and security measures?
  • How much is the qualitative value of the equipment used in the experiments?
  • Are the requirements chemicals and solutions to conduct an experiment readily available?
  • Does the laboratory consist of quality water, regular electricity and a good disposal system?
  • How much is the duration the laboratory needs in producing results?

All of these above will only be possible, if the laboratory has a strong infrastructure. We need to know one thing very clearly that laboratories of different fields require different types of infrastructures, now let’s discuss how exactly it works.

Different Infrastructure for Different Fields;

Science is very diverse and there are many different types of laboratories, like biology, chemistry, engineering, physics etc. And these laboratories can be further divided into so many categories based on their specific departments of each field.

In this article, we will be focusing on two types of laboratories mainly and these are biology laboratory and chemistry laboratory. We will thoroughly discuss what’s common in them and what the differences are.

Chemistry laboratory;

The main focus of the chemistry experiments is to understand the properties and uses of organic and inorganic molecules of the certain material and gather all the information about them. Here are the list of equipments that are must in a chemistry laboratory for  conducting a chemistry experiment successfully;

  • Fume hood; These are such life savers, and a chemistry laboratory must have them. They function as the local ventilation system, and help release the toxic vapors that occurred during a chemistry experiment. They look very much like a biosafety cabinet but their function is totally different.
  • Spectrophotometer; It’s a wonderful device a chemistry laboratory must have in its infrastructure because it’s an equipment useful in measuring the amount of photons absorbed through a sample solution while the light beam passes through the particular solution.
  • Chromatography; In chromatography, a method is used which helps us in separating components of a sample and studying about them. But now due to advancement in science, we have instruments like HPLC, GC-LC, UHPLC, which are capable of conducting all that process automatically.
  • Spectrometer; It’s an instrument basically used in taking measurements of wavelengths in an electromagnetic radiation that has reacted with the particular sample.
  • Titrators; These are used in acid base reaction related experiments, which are mainly used in understanding the chemical properties and quality of the sample.
  • Polarimeter; This device is used to analyze the chemical structure of the molecule or compound formulated on how it will affect polarized light.

Biology Laboratory;

The main difference between both laboratories is that while in chemistry laboratory a chemical sample will be used but in a biology laboratory ,the sample used will be a biological one like a cell, tissue etc. Here’s the list equipments required specifically in a biology laboratory;

  1. Ultra Cold Freezers; To prevent the microbial or eukaryotic cells from  damage and contamination, it’s a must to use freezers which are capable of going below zero degrees. Preferable range of temperature is -20o C and -80o C.
  2. Dissection specific instrument; These are a combination of all the little instruments like forceps, scalpels etc which are used in proper dissection of the cell or tissue.
  3. Tissue Culture Hood; These are must for a biology laboratory because they are used to avoid the contamination in the samples.
  4. Thermocyclers; These are very important in the experiments related to the study of DNA etc.
  5. Biosafety cabinets; These are closed and ventilated cabinets, their function to provide safety to the sample from pathogens and other contaminated micro organisms.
  6. Microscope; since all the work is done on the cellular level, a microscope is a main requirement for a biology laboratory.
  7. Incubators; These are very helpful in growing the cells and other microorganisms.
  8. Autoclave; These are instruments used in sterilization of the samples.

We at Ziebaq Technical Company Ltd are absolute champions when it comes to designing the infrastructure of the laboratory as per the requirements of the particular field. We are experienced in developing solid and efficient infrastructures in various fields with countless satisfied customers.
